Earth, Wind & Fire's performance Sunday at Lollapalooza in Chicago was as much of a surprise to them as it was to those in attendance.
Joining Sabrina Carpenter for "Let’s Groove” and “September,” EWF singer Philip Bailey tells Vulture they were off Sunday following a show the night before in Detroit and their detour to Chicago was the idea of Sabrina's agent.
“It was one of those kinds of things that happened in 24 hours," says Bailey. "We had to really turn this thing around.
“They sent a private plane for us and our entourage. [It was] very quick and kind of sketchy. I was almost concerned about it.
"[But] by that evening, they had dialed everything in, and she did her homework on what verses she was going to take. We went out there and floated on all that energy.”
As for Sabrina, Bailey says she was "very cordial, very kind, and very approachable. … Her energy and our energy were very compatible.”
