A 12-Year-Old Boy Raises $2,500 To Pay For Best Friend’s Headstone

December 13, 2018

Moving to Warren, Michigan wasn’t easy on Kaleb Klakulak. His parents had just divorced and the shy second-grader didn’t make friends easily, but that all changed when he met K.J. Gross. The boys were both quiet and were into the same things, so they hit it off instantly and became inseparable. Their mothers were both single moms at the time, so they bonded, too.

It didn’t matter to Kaleb that K.J. had limitations, having been diagnosed with leukemia as a baby, he suffered with severe allergies and sometimes he couldn’t go out. When that happened, his best friend Kaleb came over to his house to play. But K.J. died in May after his long battle with the illness and Kaleb was devastated. And when he heard that K.J.’s mom, LaSondra Singleton, couldn’t afford a headstone for his bestie’s grave, Kaleb, now 12, found a way to help.

He started doing odd jobs to earn money and he collected soda bottles all over town to recycle for deposits. Kaleb’s mom also set up a PayPal account last week to get donations for the headstone and they’ve now reached the $2,500 goal and will give the money to K.J.’s mom for the headstone.

Singleton says she hopes the story of her son and his devoted best friend will help ease some of the divisiveness in our country. “I hope that this brings some sort of closure to the division - that people will be able to see people of all races can get along,” she says. “And we do love each other.”

Kid Runs Into Burning Building Twice To Save His Family

December 13, 2018

A Wisconsin family is alive and safe after a fire destroyed their home and could have cost them their lives, but their 15-year-old boy saved them. The family fell asleep watching a movie in their townhome in Muskego when the mom woke up to flames in the living room. She tried to put the fire out, but burned her arms and wasn’t able to.

Tess Corners Volunteer FIre Department Chief Marty Rukavina says that’s when the 15-year-old son called 911 before getting his 11-year-old sister out safely. Then the teen went back inside to save his mom. Then he went to the townhouse next door and led his legally blind aunt out to safety, Muskego Police Chief Richard Rens reports.

Rukavina says “it was extremely brave” for the teen to battle the smoke and heat to save his family and to go back to get everyone out. Chief Rens agrees, adding, “You’ve got to give him a lot of credit for that.”

Jimmy Johns Owner Pays Off $81K In Walmart Layaway Items

December 13, 2018

Some Walmart shoppers in Illinois were treated to an early Christmas gift when someone paid off their layaway items. But this time the secret Santa is actually Jimmy John’s owner, Jimmy John Liautaud.

The sandwich chain owner paid off items put on layaway at locations in Champaign, Savoy and Urbana. In all, more than 300 people’s accounts were paid for, totaling more than $81,000.

Jimmy John is just the latest famous face to help cover shoppers’ layaway balances . We recently told you about singer Kid Rock spending about the same amount paying for layaway items at a Walmart in Tennessee and actor and director Tyler Perry also paid off balances of 350 layaway accounts.
