Stars Celebrate Peace Day With Powerful Poem at iHeartRadio Music Festival

So many of your favorite stars helped celebrate Peace One Day during the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday, September 21st.

During the show, a video was played on the screen at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas showcasing several of the festival's performers like Carrie Underwood, Sam Smith, and Mariah Carey, in addition to artists including The Chainsmokers, Troye Sivan, and Nick Jonas all reciting a special poem written by Mike Posner, who kicks off the clip.

The poem is in collaboration with DNA testing company 23andMe in honor of the United Nations' International Peace Day, in association with non-profit organization Peace One Day. In the poem, all of the stars pledged to make peace with someone and asked everyone watching to do the same. Collectively, each celebrity explained that despite our differences, at our core, we are all the same — especially genetically ... we are all 99.5% just like each other.

"We are all connected. We are all one. With eyes wide open, let's give each other the gift of understanding, tolerance, kindness. Let's celebrate how much I am just like you," Logic, Carrie Underwood, and more explain.

Mike Posner was inspired to write this poem by something truly remarkable that happened on Christmas Day during World War I. During the fifth month of the 51 months of the war, the fear of chemical warfare on the battlefield was at an all time high. But on Christmas Day French and German soldiers went against their orders and putting their differences aside, and not only had a truce, but a party, and celebrated with dancing, gifts, and even games of soccer.

In a statement, Posner said, "If those men could create peace against all odds on that day, amid one of the most brutal conflicts in human history -- why can't all of us do that for one day?" He added, "It's a call to action for the artists and the people around the world to show more love, more understanding and more compassion. The folks at iHeart, 23andMe, they're busy enough throwing a huge festival, running a huge company. For them to take time out to create this moment celebrating peace is really beautiful. All the artists who have participated in this message for peace are all very busy artists. There's no shortage of people asking them to do stuff. I just feel proud to be a part of that team."
