Handcuffed Man Shot And Killed Inside Maryland Police Cruiser

A Maryland man who was handcuffed and sitting in a police cruiser was shot and killed by a Prince George's County police officer. Deputies responded to reports that a driver had struck multiple vehicles with his car and approached the suspect.

They smelled PCP and believed the suspect was under the influence of drugs. He was detained without incident and placed in the front seat of the deputy's cruiser while they waited for a drug recognition team to arrive. As one of the officers sat down in the driver's seat, he began struggling with the suspect and fired his service multiple times.

Officers attempted to perform life-saving treatment on the man, but he died from his injuries at a local hospital.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the shooting and placed the officer on administrative leave. The officer was not wearing a body camera, and investigators are trying to track down surveillance footage that could provide more insight into what happened.

While officials have not identified the suspect, his fiancée spoke with a WTTG-TV reporter at the scene.

"We've got questions with no answers. We need to know what happened to William Green," Sandra Mathis said. "His life matters. He was loved."
