The Trump administration is doubling down on a controversial policy that has seen many children who are being brought to the United States illegally separated from their parents by border patrol agents. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen voiced her support of the policy during a speech at a meeting of the National Sheriffs' Association.

She told the crowd that the Trump administration "will not apologize for the job we do or for the job law enforcement does for doing the job that the American people expect us to do" She warned that "illegal actions have and must have consequences. No more free passes, no more get out of jail free cards."

President Donald Trump also threw his support behind the policy in a series of tweets on Monday.

Children are being used by some of the worst criminals on earth as a means to enter our country. Has anyone been looking at the Crime taking place south of the border. It is historic, with some countries the most dangerous places in the world. Not going to happen in the U.S.

Trump warned that the lax immigration policies in Europe, specifically highlighting Germany, which allows "millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!"

The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition. Crime in Germany is way up. Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!

A senior administration official told the Washington Examiner that the Department of Health and Human Services(HHS) is taking in around 250 children each day. The official anticipated that the HHS will continue to take in at least that many children every day for the next few months. If the estimates hold, the agency will be holding around 30,000 kids by the end of August.
