Amazon Narrows List Of Cities For Second North American Headquarters

posted by Bill Galluccio -

Amazon has narrowed the list of cities to host it's second headquarters in North America to 20, down from the 238 that submitted proposals. USA Today reports that the tech company used specific criteria to pare down the list. The company decided the winning city must "be in a metropolitan area with more than 1 million people, have a "stable and business-friendly environment," and be in "urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent."

The company has vowed to spend $5 billion and employ 50,000 workers in the city where the new headquarters is built. The tech giant expects to add $38 billion to the local economy, while creating an additional 53,000 non-Amazon jobs.

The list of cities left in the running are:

Atlanta, GA

Austin, TX

Boston, MA

Chicago, IL

Columbus, OH

Dallas, TX

Denver, CO

Indianapolis, IN

Los Angeles, CA

Miami, FL

Montgomery County, MD

Nashville, TN

Newark, NJ

New York City, NY

Northern Virginia, VA

Philadelphia, PA

Pittsburgh, PA

Raleigh, NC

Toronto, ON

Washington, DC

Amazon expects to decide on the winning city this year.
